How to: Dressing by the Decades

More Magazine How to dress in your 30s 40s 50s 60sAchievable Fashion is always on the prowl for fabulous fashion information. By fabulous, I mean useful. Many times the fashion world forgets that most of us are not the “couture ladies” they seem to cater to. This forgetfulness on the part of the fashion world, can make our – real ladies – fashion journey a bit complicated.

With that said, I am forever trying to create a bridge from the runways and magazines to the closets of real women – which I like to refer to as the masses. Why do I like to refer to us as the masses? Simply put, I think there are way more of me out there than those who can actually follow the fashion world.

Here is a useful article. I found it in the March Issue of More Magazine. “What to Ware in Your 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. If we want to look fashion forward it very important to dress age appropriate. Have you ever been at a party and someone in their 40’s is dressed in something that belongs on a 20 year old? Awful Right? There may not be any worse fashion mistake than not dressing age appropriate.

I have to believe the only reason one would dress inappropriate for their age is that they really don’t know any better. Thus my love of this article. It points out how to dress in your 30s, how to dress in your 40s, how to dress in your 50s and how to dress in your 60s. I am not sure why they stopped at 60s, maybe More Magazine has not gotten the memo that we are living much longer these days! LOL

Anyway check out this article for tips on how to dress age appropriate. After reading this you will never be the fool looking like a fool!

How to: Break the Rules, 5 Fashion Rules You Should Break!

0413-navy-jacket-black-pants-lgnI love this article, “5 Fashion Rules You Should Break.” I found it in Good Housekeeping Magazine.

I think part of the challenge we have with fashion is that we aren’t always sure of the rules.  There have been so many fashion rules over the years that we don’t know which still apply. If we follow every rule we have heard we would be left with nothing to wear!

This article highlights 5 fashion rules that are no longer necessary to follow.  In fact these 5 fashion rules are ones we should break!

Fix Those Stretched Lobes!

imagesOkay, where were you in the 80’s / early 90’s?  If during this time you were fleeing local night clubs at 4 am when they turned the lights on, and you know exactly what I am talking about, then you are very familiar with these earrings aka, door knockers!  Everything during the 80’s and into the early 90’s was big and exaggerated.  From hair to earrings, it had to be big! I think this must be where the saying Go Big or go home started!

However ridiculous, I’m glad we had these times… when in need of a good laugh all you need to do is go to your 80’s / early 90’s file and pull out a photo.    We all love a big hair post on FB!

Back to the earrings. I had a very similar pair, in fact I am wondering if these are mine!  Not only were they big, they were even heavier. I can remember my earlobes killing by the end of the night. One might think that would have stopped me from wearing them, not a chance.

You think someone could have been smart enough to make earrings big, but be light? Again, not a chance! For those of us who were heavy earring warriors back in the day, there is a good chance we have stretched ear lobes and stretched piercings.  I myself cannot wear earrings in my first earring hole.  I guess it’s a good thing multiple earring piercings were also popular with the door knocker earrings.  (5 in each ear I touted proudly!)  Can someone please explain to me how my parents did not kill me, if for nothing else, stupidity!

Challenge – stupidity has left many of us with stretched earring piercings.

500

Solution Lobe Wonder. Here are support patches so we can again wear earrings in those stretched lobes.  These are worth trying.

Check them out and wear earrings in your first earring piercing again!

How to Wear Flats, Oxfords and Low Heels!

item0_rendition_slideshowVertical_dearlucky-ballet-flatsAs you know, I am constantly searching for the best fashion information. When I say the best, I mean useful fashion information. You know, information us real ladies can actually use!  I am not interested in reporting the latest and greatest from the fashion houses in Milan, not because I don’t love that fashion, but because I just don’t think it’s relevant to most of us!

Whenever I find fashion info for us real ladies I report it on the Achievable Fashion Magazine. The Achievable Magazine is filed with the best and relevant fashion info for us real women – who I like to refer to as the masses!

I love this article / QA from Lucky magazine.  It explains how to wear flats, oxfords and low heels. Since this season has many flats, oxfords and low heels, I am sure many of us are thinking, “What do I wear with this seasons flats, oxfords and low heels?” Wonder no more, Lucky Magazine has answered the question for us! Thank you Lucky Magazine!

How to : Layer! Article of the Month – Lucky Magazine “Get the Layered Look!

cn_image_2_size_layerdd-look-1Who gets in the running for the coveted Achievable Fashion Article of the Month Award?   Who makes the cut you are asking?

Ok, who am I kidding, you’re not asking that at all.

Like I always say, this award will mean much more when we have hundreds of thousands of visitors each month…it’s coming, how am I so certain?

Because our ultimate goal is to help women rid themselves of their dreadful closet full of clothes and nothing to wear – and because over 90% of women have this dreadful closet – I know we will reach a time when magazines are vying for that coveted article of the month award.  For now I realize no one is banging my door down – in fact no one really cares right now.

Any who, we give the award to whatever article we feel has the most useful fashion information of the month. By useful, I mean fashion information that real women can actually use. So whoever has the most useful article of the month walks away with the coveted Achievable Fashion Article of the Month Award!

Drum Roll….

This month’s award goes to Lucky Magazine!

I love, love, love the article; “Get the Layered Look” – Lucky Mag January 2013. (As usual I am behind the times – story of my life!)

Why do I live this article? Because layering is so cool, whenever I see it in the magazines I think cool. Yet when I attempt to reproduce the layered looks, I end up looking like a cross between being dressed for a round of strip poker and the Michelin tire man. (Let the records show I do not actually play strip poker!)

I have often thought, why can’t I layer like they do in the magazines?

I know if I end up looking like I popped out of the layering gone wrong section, there are some of you too, that may need a hand with layering.  So for all of us who get layering wrong, here is the perfect article on how to get the perfect layered look!

How to – 5 Ways to Hide Your Belly Fat!

Okay we have all, be it now or some other time, struggled with a little more on our midsection than we would like.  In fact, I am convinced, those of us who love to eat struggle with a muffin top most of the time. I have affectionately named my muffin top Muffy ! She is sort of my sidekick!

I try to work out and curb the eating but all it takes is 2 days of being not so good and my side kick “Muffy” is back.

I no longer detest my side kick – don’t get me wrong, I prefer she take a slow row boat to China and never be seen again, however, my love of food may never allow this to happen. So I have decided to embrace her as I now try to embrace everything! (sign of getting older!)

So what I am dedicated to do is finding cleaver ways to disguise her.  I believe that looking our best is part trickery plus part smoke and mirrors – which is best achieved by finding the proper fit and understanding some basic rules.

So instead of living a life of deprivation, which may be what it takes to have Muffy disappear forever I  find clever ways to disguise her until I get back on the straight and narrow.  In fact, that’s my gig, I find clever things for all things fashion, useful tidbits that help us real women.  My job sift sort and report the good stuff.

Naturally when I came across this article, 5 Ways to Hide Your Belly Fat by Susan Swimmer — More Magazine, I found it worthy of reporting.  I hope these tips help!  And by the way have the burger and don’t worry!

What Necklace with What Neckline?

Have you ever put on a necklace and thought, Oh this doesn’t work?  If you are anything like me you have done so many times.  The problem for me is that I am never quite sure why the necklace is a no go.

I know when a necklace looks good; I know when a necklace looks bad, I just have no clue why either way. The heaps of necklaces that are spilling out of my drawers and jewelry box rarely get worn because of this.

So, I have to say, I was thrilled to find this article in More Magazine.  It explains what type of necklace to wear with what neckline.

I am convinced that part of the reason we are all living with a closet full of clothes and accessories with nothing to wear is that we don’t know how to wear what we have.

On my quest to rid every woman of her closet full of clothes and nothing to wear I happily share  this article with you in hopes it helps!

I know I have said this before but I need to say it again, I love Real Simple Magazine! Each month when I do the searching, sorting and reporting I can always count on Real Simple for useful fashion information!

The sub article, “3 annoying problems and how to solve them” from the Dec 2011 article, “Fit Lab Party Skirts” – answers 3 common fashion questions. What shoes do I wear with what skirt?  Do I go with Basic or fun tights?  And lastly, where have all the plus size party skirts gone?

We have all been there, standing in front of the mirror half-dressed wondering, what shoes and what tights do I wear with this skirt?  Now, I am not one to say you always have to follow fashion rules, but I am one to say you should know the rules.
