The Achievable Fashion Magazine is a collection of the best articles, products and fashion information found from the sea of information out there. We search through all the fashion information out there and highlight the useful stuff.

Achievable Fashion is not interested in recreating the wheel. We are interested in finding really great fashion information and placing it in one place so that real women can have access to it! We find it, report it, and link to it so you can read it.

I know I have said this before but I need to say it again, I love Real Simple Magazine! Each month when I do the searching, sorting and reporting I can always count on Real Simple for useful fashion information!

The sub article, “3 annoying problems and how to solve them” from the Dec 2011 article, “Fit Lab Party Skirts” – answers 3 common fashion questions. What shoes do I wear with what skirt? Do I go with Basic or fun tights? And lastly, where have all the plus size party skirts gone?

We have all been there, standing in front of the mirror half-dressed wondering, what shoes and what tights do I wear with this skirt? Now, I am not one to say you always have to follow fashion rules, but I am one to say you should know the rules. The rules in this article are a good guide to go by. If you know the rules when and if you decide to break them – you are aware of what you are doing. I call that having your guns loaded.

Pastel jeans are one of this season’s hottest trends. They are a bit tricky to wear. Unfortunately we can’t all pull things off like my favorite princess does – really Princess Kate could wear a pastel burlap bag and look amazing!

So, how do those of us who are not Princess Kate or a super model wear this hot trend???

Very carefully! First and foremost you go back to basics and follow the rules you have read in our book on how to select clothes. Be prepared, you might have to try on a million pairs of pastel jeans until you find the pair that’s just right for you.

The goal when you go shopping for this hot trend is to find pair that fits you like a glove and makes you look amazing!!! Don’t quit searching until you find the right pair! If you settle for a so – so pair – you won’t wear them and they will become part of that closet full of clothes and nothing to wear, which, may I remind you, is what we are all trying to avoid.

Colorblocking – Become an Expert!

We all know colorblocking is in. However, do any of us know exactly what colorblocking is? If you are like me you think you know, but if challenged to put a colorblocking out fit together you may not do so well. In fact until I watched this video I would most likely have found myself on the fashion pages of what not to do, colorblocking gone wrong!
Because our mission is to help real women on their fashion journey we set out to find a simple way to teach you how to colorblock like an expert! We sifted through the sea of fashion information out there and found a great video that is in real women language. This colorblocking video from Refinery 29 will make you an expert on the subject! *I am in no way a fashion expert with a fancy fashion degree! Achievable Fashion was created out of my own need to get fashion right. Not to be a fashionista or fashion icon, but to get out of the house looking put together. I was sick of having the dreaded daily fight with my closet – and p.s. most of the time I lost! As I began my journey to get fashion right I soon figured out that the beginning of mastering fashion and my closet was to build a Basic Classic Wardrobe. Because this Basic Classic Wardrobe helped me so much I decided to write a book about it to share it with women. How to Update our Wardrobe – The Right Way!

Okay let’s get a grip on updating our wardrobes. If you have built your Basic Classic Wardrobe (BCW) you are ready to update your look. If you have not built your Basic Classic Wardrobe I strongly suggest you get our Book and build it.

The Achivable Fashion Basic Classic Wardrobe consists of the essential wardrobe pieces every closet must have in order to function. Without a BCW you have the dreaded closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. The closet full of clothes and nothing to wear always leads to frustration! We start with the dressing aerobics – you know how it goes – pants on, pants off, another pair on, another pair off, then comes the sweat, aggravation, then comes pulling your hair out – and the grand finale, in desperation, in the middle of the closet, we scream, “WHY do I have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear!!!”

Back to updating your wardrobe. For kicks and giggles let’s say you have built your BCW. It’s time for wardrobe updating. In order to maximize your wardrobe the items you purchase should work well together. Often we make the mistake of purchasing trend items without regard for how they will work together.

An orange fuzzy sweater does not blend well with purple plaid bottoms; and neither work with a blue hounds tooth scarf. Yet when shopping this is how many us make purchases. (No wonder our closets end up looking like a thrift store gone wrong!)

3 current fashion trends right now are – plaid, snakeskin and loafer pumps. See the examples above. The first row is how not to purchase current trends. Yes, they are the correct trends, but can you wear any of them together? No. So if we purchase the first 3 items we will have the correct trends in our closet but we will not get the most mileage from them. Now look at the second row. They are also the correct current trends; however they do work well together so we will get maximum mileage! (Visit Runway to Real Life for more examples)

Maximum mileage comes from selecting items that work well together. Notice how purchasing 3 items can multiply your wardrobe when done correctly. We have selected a pair of wide leg trousers, a snakeskin scarf and loafer pumps to update with. Because we selected items that work well together we get lots of new looks with only a few pieces. Tired of Your Belt Flopping Over – Belt Loopy Saves the Day!

What happens when you wear a belt with something that doesn’t
have belt loops? Your belt annoyingly hangs over at the end right? How frustrating! Not any more, check out

Mix Prints / Patterns Like a Fashion Expert!

Mixing multiple prints is a current fashion trend. But unless you are a fashion expert can you do this without looking like you got dressed in the dark? When I decided to put together a website that would bring effortless fashion to real women, my mission was to find and report information that would help us busy ladies on our fashion journey – information that would allow us to be fashion forward with minimal time and investment.

The current fashion trend – mixing different prints together – is tricky business. I searched to find information that would help you and I steer clear of looking like a hot mess when wearing more than one print at a time. What I discovered is that there are some basic rules to follow. I found a great blog that highlights 8 rules to follow when mixing multiple prints.
